Government caps on electricity rates are being lifted right now in states like Pennsylvania. According to the state of Pennsylvania, some are already raising rates, but by 2011 ALL the utilities will be able to pass along the full wholesale market price to consumers. Once that happens and because the prices of energy sources like coal, natural gas and oil have increased substantially in the last 12 years since the caps were enacted - consumers can expect double-digit increases in the rates they pay.
The estimates are that the increases will amount to approximately $1.55 Billion per year, compared to current rates just for consumers! Commercial and Industrial represent another approximate $4 Billion a year!
